Suhara Hydraulic Power Plant started its operation in 1922. It is still in operation but it is a historical monument.

Water comes from the Kiso dam, which locates up to the Kiso River about 20km, through a few power plants. The headrace is underdrain or tunnel and reaches above the power plant then runs down to the power generators.

The water runs down through water pipes to the power generators and goes out to the headrace.

At the junWater of the Kiso River is added and runs through the headrace to Okuwa Hydraulic Power Plant, which is the next power plant along the headrace. When Okuwa Hydraulic Power Plant is out of service, the water goes back to the Kiso River at the water gate.
