Kiso Hydraulic Power Plant is an underground power plant. You can see only the gate of the access tunnel, the transformer and the surge tank. Water comes from the Kiso dam about 15km upstream of the Kiso river. The surge tank is at the edge of the mountain above the power station.
At the gate of the power station, you can find the panel of the overview of Kiso Power Plant. When the power generator stops even though water keeps running, the water is stored in the surge tank and eventually overflows to the Ogawa river behind the mountain.
The gate of the access tunnel is closed and no access to the power plant is allowed.
Water out of the power plant keeps running undergrand and is drained at Okuwa Hydraulic Power Plant.
The Okuwa Hydraulic Power Plant is a large scale plant but it is underground. Hope you imagine the whole view of the plant when you see the surge tank on the mountain.
