IHI Turbo is the most honorable company in Okuwa village. Without the company, we hardly imagine how this village would be today since the company has brought prosperity to the village. 80 years ago, the forerunner of IHI Turbo, Ishikawajima Shibaura Turbine, was founded at Hashiba area in Okuwa village in 1943. Before the forerunner was founded, there had been a paper manufacture, which needed wood as material and water for manufacturing process and an electric power for machineries. The Hashiba area fulfilled all of them. The Inagawa River beside the factory gives enough water, which can generate enough electric power, and all around the factory is the forest that has the huge amount of trees. However, the social situation had enforced the change of the business and the forerunner of IHI Turbo replaced the paper manufacture.

The hydraulic power station built 100 years ago for the paper manufacturing is still running beside the IHI Turbo factory.

IHI Turbo has three factories in the village. The second and third factories are on the hill at riverside of the Kiso River in Wamura area.

IHI Turbo is leading the global business of the vehicular turbochargers with IHI Turbo America in Shelbyville, Illinois.
